Life Sentence For Crowborough Father Who Murdered 8-Week-Old Baby

Sussex Police

A father in Crowborough who shook his baby daughter to death in 2018 has been jailed for life.

As previously reported by More Radio, the parents of 8-week-old Holly Roe were convicted on Wednesday (March 17).

Michael Roe, 33, of Alderbrook Close, Crowborough, was found guilty of murder, and Tiffany Tate, 22, was found guilty of allowing her death.

They appeared at Hove Crown Court on Friday (March 19) for sentencing.

Roe was jailed for life with a minimum of 19 years, the 555 days he spent on remand will count towards the minimum term.

Tate was jailed for two years and nine months.

According to IRN, a court heard that Michael Roe told "lie after lie" and tried to pin the blame for the death on Tate.

The trial found that Holly, who was born two months prematurely, had died at her father's hands.

She had suffered "forceful shaking, traumatic impact, or both", a court heard on Friday.

A judge also criticised her mother for allowing the death of her baby.

According to IRN, Mr Justice Edward Murray said the following while sentencing Roe:

"When you get frustrated you would lose your temper and lash out, unfortunately for baby Holly one lashing out proved fatal.

"Clearly you had a position of trust in relation to Holly - the highest possible as her father - which you abused."

"Your efforts Michael Roe to pin the blame on Tiffany Tate began even before Holly's death."
