Littlehampton Town Council is holding a Beacon Lighting as part of the Royal British Legion’s Centenary year which marks 100 years of supporting the Armed Forces community.
The Royal British Legion has organised a Torch of Remembrance to pass to and from selected branches within the county. Sussex towns and villages, including Littlehampton will participate by lighting their own beacon today (Saturday) at 8pm.
Derek Moore MBE, the RBL Poppy Appeal Organiser for Littlehampton, thanked the Town Council for getting involved in this important celebration and added:
“Not only will it help to mark the RBL 100 years but it also gives us the opportunity to thank our dedicated staff, members and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that those who have served are looked after no matter what hardships and challenges they face.”
The Littlehampton event will begin on the Stage by the Sea at 7.30pm with welcoming speeches from Town Mayor, Councillor Michelle Molloy and a representative of the Royal British Legion. Prayer will be offered by Father Mark Williams of St Mary’s Church before the Last Post and Reveille are played by a Bugler either side of one minute silence. At 8pm, Littlehampton’s Beacon will be lit to celebrate the Centenary of the Royal British Legion. Refreshments will be available for purchase courtesy of the Barista Bros.

The Royal British Legion is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community and offers lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The work they do is tremendous and on behalf of the Town Council I congratulate them on reaching this magnificent milestone."
