Littlehampton Crew Member To Run 45km In Full Kit In Aid Of Lifeboat Station

Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboat Station’s Hannah Presgrave is going the extra mile for the RNLI’s annual Mayday fundraising campaign – running nine gruelling 5km events across the south east of England this May in her full RNLI lifeboat crew kit.

Hannah, who has volunteered as crew at Littlehampton RNLI for seven years, will be joined in her challenge by local RNLI crew, fundraisers and volunteers in Crowthorne, in Berkshire; Farnham and Godalming, in Surrey; Littlehampton, Shoreham and Selsey, in West Sussex; and Basingstoke, Emsworth and Portsmouth, in Hampshire.

Her distinctive yellow and black all-weather crew kit includes a helmet, boots and gloves, which may be perfect for answering emergency calls on Littlehampton RNLI’s busy lifeboats, but are far from ideal to run long distances in.

Hannah, who is also a community manager for the RNLI, said:

"So, we all know you get natural-born runners in life. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not one! I’ve decided to take on a mega challenge this year. I’m running nine 5km runs within the South East to make it a marathon in May. If this wasn’t bad enough, I will be running in my crew kit too – so it’s going to be hot! Any money you can spare will make a huge difference to our soon-to-be busiest summer yet."

The RNLI’s annual Mayday fundraising campaign raises funds to keep lifesavers kitted and trained to deal with emergencies – and come home safe themselves. http://themaydaymile.rnli.org£25 could fund a pair of sea-going gloves to protect RNLI lifesavers from wind-chill and rope burn; £55 could fund a pair of sturdy, protective, non-slip boots to keep volunteers sure-footed at sea; and £100 could help bring water safety training lessons to school children for the summer season.
