[From Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team Facebook]

Coastguard teams were called to rescue a a man in the River Arun and a broken down jet skier in Littlehampton yesterday (Sunday).

Teams from Littlehampton Coastguard had two call-outs yesterday, the first involving reports of a male in the River Arun.

The RNLI also attended the scene, and later confirmed that the person was a windsurfer who had fallen off his board.

He was safe and well and happy to continue windsurfing.

The coastguard was also called to reports of a broken down jet ski at West Beach, shortly before lunchtime.

Officials said a large shoredump meant recovery by sea was not an option.

Team were tasked to ensure safety of the jet ski owners as they recovered their jet skis.

A spokesperson from Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"The jet skiers were very well prepared and suitably equipped for their venture out to sea.

"As we always suggest they had PFDs on, carried mobile phones in a waterproof pouch and went out as a group, ensuring that even when one broke down that person was not left alone.

"It was the jet ski owner who called the coastguard to ensure that they were aware that there were no persons in trouble in the water and avoiding a larger scale SAR mission."

The team stood by until both personal watercraft had been recovered safely up the beach before standing down and returning to station.
