Liz Truss Beats Rishi Sunak To Be Named UK's Next Prime Minister

Liz Truss has been confirmed as the UK's next Prime Minister, defeating Tory leadership rival Rishi Sunak.

The now-former Foreign Secretary is expected to formally take over from Boris Johnson tomorrow (Tuesday).

172,437 votes were secured with an 82.6 per cent turn out. Rishi Sunak secured 60,399, while Liz Truss managed 81,326.

She will travel to Balmoral for an audience with the Queen, before entering 10 Downing Street.

It follows a seven-week long leadership contest.

Top of the agenda for Liz Truss is the cost of living crisis. She is promising a plan on energy prices within a week.
