Lewes District Council have taken over from emergency services dealing with around 600 tonnes of stonework on a wall that collapsed yesterday afternoon (Monday, 11). The council said that structural engineers will continue to investigate the aftermath that's left in Castleditch Lane. The wall was not, as it may have been previously believed, part of Lewes Castle, but it is believed to be centuries old. Police have put up barriers around the area and people are asked to keep away at this time. Local residents and business owners will be contacted today by council officers.
