Long-Serving More Radio Journalist Loses Battle With Cancer

Sharon Plummer

The radio journalist Sharon Plummer (née Williams), who brought news to listeners in Sussex via More Radio and its predecessors across almost two decades, has died at the age of 39.

Legions of tributes to Sharon have poured in, including via social media platforms, after the news that she had lost her fight against cancer on the fifth anniversary of her wedding.

She received her diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in September this year, nine months after giving birth to her daughter, Jemima.

In Sussex, Sharon's career in broadcast journalism saw her bring her talents to Sovereign Radio in Eastbourne some twenty years ago.

She continued on air with the radio station's successors across Sussex, including much news reading and writing for the stations that later combined to create More Radio.

After marrying David Plummer five years ago, and moving to Lincolnshire, her journalism continued to be heard on numerous radio stations, and she also recorded voiceovers and audiobooks from her home studio.

Her colleagues and friends, Joanna Flay and Laura Raymond, have set up a fundraising appeal on Go Fund Me to help raise money for Sharon's family, which stood at £4,512 on Monday evening (October 23).

In a joint statement, they said:

"Sharon had such passion and determination in all things close to her heart and was fiercely loyal.

"She was so very deserving of a long and happy life with the family she had longed for.

"We're all completely heartbroken that she's gone."

The thoughts of all in the More Radio family past and present, and many other colleagues and friends throughout broadcast journalism, are with David and Jemima.
