Argentina's midfield maestro, Alexis Mac Allister, has become the first player to win a World Cup whilst contracted to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The dynamic 23-year-old playmaker was pivotal in his country's pulsating penalty shootout success against France in Qatar last night (Sunday).

It was his perfectly weighted ball that created Argentina's second goal for Angel Di Maria.

Mac Allister has only been a regular at Brighton since midway through last season, but has been on elite radars for most of his professional career - making his senior international debut three years ago while plying his trade in Buenos Aires.

The Argentine — who is of Scottish and Irish descent — signed a new deal in October to extend his stay at the Amex until at least 2025.

Mac Allister made six appearances for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup and scored the opener in a 2-0 group-stage win against Poland.

Brighton return to action with a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie at Charlton Athletic on Wednesday before a South Coast derby clash against rivals Southampton on Boxing Day.
