A landslip has been reported to be blocking the tracks between Brighton and Hove this morning (Saturday, 22). Southern Rail are warning rail passengers of major disruption after a train driver spotted the landslide at around 5.20am on the westbound line near Hove Tunnel. The railway operator said: "Network Rail are working to assess the situation. "Response staff are now on site and have confirmed that soil and a number of trees have slipped onto one of the two lines in the area. "Specialist engineers are now being sent to work out how to rectify the landslip." Disruption is expected until the end of the day. Trains which are due to run between these two stations may be delayed, cancelled, diverted via Preston Park, or revised to only complete parts of their journeys. Customers are advised to check before they travel and leave extra time for journeys. Southern Rail said the following services are affected: Brighton to Hove shuttle is suspended, passengers should use local bus services. Brighton to West Worthing services are suspended, passengers should use local bus services. Brighton to Portsmouth Harbour services may terminate and start from Hove, passengers should use local bus routes to travel to and from Hove. Brighton to Southampton Central services may start and terminate at Fratton, passengers travelling to Southampton should change for South Western Railway services. Littlehampton to London Victoria services are running as normal however minor delays can occur. The operator said rail replacement buses are unfortunately not available, but some other operators are accepting tickets. They added that Brighton & Hove and Stagecoach buses will be accepting tickets. Customers could be entitled to compensation if they hold on to their ticket, according to Southern Rail.
