Man Accused Of Double Murder Appears At Hove Crown Court

Mark Brown, 40, of Squirrel Close, St Leonards-On-Sea, has been accused of murdering Alexandra Morgan, 34 from Sissinghurst and Leah Ware, 33, from Hastings.

Mother of two, Morgan, was last seen on Sunday, November 14 of last year, buying petrol from a Shell garage in Cranbook in Kent, just before 7.30am.

Searches were carried out in three areas of Hastings and near Sevenoaks Weald, but her body was never recovered.

Since then, Alexandra Morgan's remains have been recovered - bone fragments and teeth were found in an oil drum on a building site in Kent where Brown was working at the time.

Leah Ware is still missing. She was thought to have had a relationship of sorts with Brown and had been living on Brown's farmland, first in a caravan and then in a converted shipping container, before she died, according to the prosecution.

In February, Brown pleaded not guilty to the murders of both women. His defence lawyer told the judge at the time that Brown's defence was that Morgan had died an accidental death and he had tried to dispose of her body by burning.

Brown appeared at Hove Crown Court this morning, after which the case was adjourned until tomorrow when the jury will be sworn in.

Police are appealing for information and have asked that if anyone knows anything about the circumstances of either women's disappearance, they should call Sussex or Kent Police or call 101 and quote Operation Gallery for Kent or Operation Acresdown for Sussex.

Police search for Alexandra Morgan's remains at Little Bridge Farm in Hastings:
