Man admits to striking and injuring Sussex Police officers with stolen vehicle

A man has admitted seriously injuring two Sussex Police officers and a man in Littlehampton after the stolen car he was driving struck them. Jack Robson, 20, of Holly Drive in Wick, pleaded guilty to a string of offences at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday, 23) following the incident on the A259 last month. Police said the officers were carrying out a drugs roadside check shortly after 1am on September 23 when the vehicle hit them. All three suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital, according to police. Robson admitted to three counts of causing serious injury by driving dangerously, burglary, driving with no insurance, driving not in accordance with his provisional licence and driving with uncorrected vision. DCI Andy Wolstenholme, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "The officers involved in this incident have displayed considerable courage and continue to do so throughout their recovery. "They are grateful for the support and well-wishes they have received from their colleagues and especially the public. "We all feel the impact when our colleagues are harmed as they work to keep the public safe. "They do this selflessly 365 days-a-year and the public's support means so much to them. "Robson's guilty plea will spare the officers and their colleagues', as well as the member of the public who was also struck, from having to relive their ordeal in court. "Robson committed serious offences which have, no doubt, had a significant impact on those involved and for which I am pleased he has accepted that he will have to face the consequences." Police said Robson will be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on December 12.
