Man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Worthing

A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Worthing this morning (Monday, 24). Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) said the 20-year-old was detained at a residential address at around 5am, on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation, or instigation of an act of terrorism. Officials said he was taken into police custody while a search at the address is ongoing. The arrest was intelligence-led and linked to Islamist-related terrorism, according to detectives. DCS Kath Barnes said: “This arrest forms part of a pre-planned operation by CTPSE, working alongside colleagues at Sussex Police. “I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we carry out searches and continue our investigation.” CI Sarah Leadbeatter said: "Sussex Police is working closely with Counter Terrorism investigators to support their operation, which was intelligence-led and not in response to any specific threat to our local area."
