Man charged with a string of sex offences against children and young people in Sussex

A man has been charged with a string of sexual offences against children and young people across Sussex, Hampshire and the West Midlands. Police said Robert Cameron Wells, 68, appeared in court yesterday (Wednesday, 4), where he was charged with 19 offences. He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on April 1, according to officers. Wells' charges are against five individuals. Police said the charges include three alleged offences against an eight-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl in West Sussex in 1998. Six of the alleged offences were for indecent assault on a nine-year-old girl in 2001 in the West Midlands and in the Brighton area, and two alleged offences of raping a nine-year-old girl in Brighton in 2001, according to officers. Police emphasise that there are no current or recent safeguarding issues or concerns for youth or wider community safety in relation to this investigation.
