A man has died following a collision between four vehicles on a country road in Sussex on Wednesday morning (August 18).

The victim, a 36-year-old man from Dartford, Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A267 at Frant in the Wealden district of East Sussex, about 11.11am.

A two-year-old boy from Dartford, whose father was the driver who died, sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London, where he remained on Wednesday evening in a critical condition.

But, according to police, the driver of one of the vehicles involved failed to stop at the scene, as the law requires.

The four vehicles were the blue Ford Fiesta being driven by the man who died, a white Renault Master, a silver Toyota Estima and a silver or grey Honda car whose driver made off.

A section of the road was temporarily closed to allow police investigators to begin their work.

Police are urging any witnesses – or anyone who may have captured either of the vehicles in the area on dash cam – to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Utility.

In particular, officers said they were keen to hear from the driver of the silver or grey Honda car, who reportedly made off from the scene.
