Man Facing Court After Police Car Chase Ended In Lancing

A 34 year old man was due to appear in court today to face multiple charges in connection with a police pursuit on major roads in Sussex and Surrey.

Officers said that at about 9.30pm on Christmas Eve, they were called to a report of a stolen vehicle on the M25 in Surrey.

Surrey Police and Sussex Police pursued the vehicle, whose driver had failed to stop when required.

In an interception, road policing officers stopped it on the A27 in Lancing and detained the driver.

In connection with the December 24 incident, Sonny Breakspear, 34, of no fixed address, was later charged with:

  • driving a vehicle without consent of the owner,
  • dangerous driving,
  • causing criminal damage to a police vehicle,
  • driving without a licence, and
  • failing to stop and driving without insurance.

He was also charged with criminal damage and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with an incident which took place on 8 December in Dorking, Surrey.

He also faces a charge of malicious communication in connection with an incident on 15 December.

He was due to appear before Guildford Magistrates’ Court today, 27 December.
