Man From Brighton Wanted On Suspicion Of ‘Coercive Behaviour’ Now Charged

Police in Brighton have traced, charged and arrested a man they wanted to speak to on suspicion of coercive and controlling behaviour.

Officers say they wanted to interview Leon Chart on suspicion of coercive and controlling behaviour towards a woman in her thirties.

He was also wanted on suspicion of assaulting and causing damage at the woman’s address in Portslade earlier this year in May, as well as witness intimidation.

40-year-old Chart, of no fixed address, was arrested in the city last Thursday night.

He appeared in custody at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (6 June) charged with two offences of causing actual bodily harm, two offences of criminal damage, witness intimidation, and breaching a Domestic Violence Protection Notice.

He has been remanded in custody and to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 3 July.

“We hope this conviction goes to show that any such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
