Man Given Community Sentence After Assaulting Women In Supermarket

A man from Crawley has been given a community sentence for a series of assaults on women who were shopping in a Crawley supermarket.

36-year-old Kaspars Grikis, of Woodfield Road, Crawley, was sentenced when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday).

He was given an 18-month Community Order, with an unpaid work requirement of 180 hours and a rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £100.00.

Police said:

"At 5.30pm on 8 August last year officers were called to Tesco at Hazelwick, Crawley, to a report of a drunk man causing problems.

"While officers were at the scene a woman reported having been sexually assaulted by touching in the store and another woman went to the police station to report a similar assault at the same time and place.

"We also obtained store CCTV which very clearly showed a similar assault on another woman in the store at around the same time, and a media appeal resulted in her and a fourth woman coming forward to say they had been assaulted in the same way."
