A 42-year-old man has been left in a critical condition after a street attack in Eastbourne that left him with a serious head injury.

Officers were called to Moatcroft Road, at the junction with Upperton Road, at 00.01am on Monday (August 30), to where the unconscious victim was found.

Police said he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he remained that afternoon in a critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe the man was involved in a fight, potentially with three other men, earlier in the night.

The victim had been at the Prince Albert pub in the High Street, and is thought to have left to head to The Rainbow pub in Moatcroft Road.

Anyone who witnessed violence or arguments in either of these locations, or the surrounding streets, has been asked to contact police.

Reports are welcomed either online or by calling 101 quoting Operation Liquorice.

Also, independent charity Crimestoppers receives reports anonymously on 0800 555 111.
