Man jailed after attacking people in Eastbourne with a shard of glass

A man who assaulted three women and threatened people with a shard of glass in Eastbourne has been jailed for two years. Connor Attridge, of Hyde Gardens, Eastbourne, admitted to the three counts of assault following an incident in Hampden Park, on January 13. The unemployed 26-year-old also admitted to causing criminal damage, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a controlled Class A drug. It follows the incident in Parkfield Avenue where officers responded to concerns for two women inside a property. Attridge, who police said was known to the women, had become angry and started assaulting one of them, causing minor injuries to her head. The dispute carried over into a neighbouring property, where Attridge assaulted a third woman and smashed a mirror. Armed with a shard of glass, Attridge then chased the two women he knew from the address out into the street. He then thrusted the glass at the second woman's stomach but it did not cause any serious injury, according to officers. He then punched her twice to the head. Attridge also used the shard of glass to threaten nearby members of the public, including parents on their way to pick their children up from a local primary school. Police said he was found to be in possession of a bag of white powder which was later confirmed as cocaine. On February 12 Attridge was sentenced to a total of two years' imprisonment for charges including threatening people in a public place and assault by beating. He was given no separate penalty for the criminal damage or possession of a Class A drug, although an order was made for the destruction of all drugs seized from him. He was ordered to pay a £149 victim surcharge and a restraining order was granted preventing him from contacting the two women known to him, and banning him from attending Parkfield Avenue, for three years.
