Man jailed after attempting to rape teenage girl in alleyway in Selsey

A man has been jailed for seven years after he attempted to rape a young teenage girl in an alleyway in Selsey. Police said the 13-year-old victim was approached by Ewing Gilmour, 21, of Sparshott Road, in the town on May 29 last year. According to officers, he engaged in conversation with her and later confronted her in an alleyway between Manor Road and Manor Lane, where he subjected her to a serious sexual assault. The girl managed to break free and run away, and the incident was reported to police. Gilmour was found guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday (February, 7) and was sentenced to seven years in prison with an extended term of three years. Investigating Officer Steve Holden said: "This was an attempt at a serious sexual assault and it was due to the bravery of the victim at the time, that prevented a worse outcome. "The victim has remained strong throughout the legal process, and I would like to thank her for that. "In addition, I'd like to thank all the members of the public who provided CCTV and other information at the time and during our investigation. "With their support, a dangerous offender - who has shown no remorse for his actions - has been identified and imprisoned."   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
