Man jailed after burgling Brighton home and stealing car

A man has been jailed for two years and nine months after burgling a home in Brighton and stealing a car. Police said Wayne Lavender, 44, of no fixed address, broke into a property in Withdean Crescent in June last year after a day of drinking with an associate on Brighton Beach. According to officers, he took an iPhone and a set of car keys from inside the property and drove away from the scene with his associate inside the stolen vehicle. He was later caught by police while travelling along the A23 and was arrested. Officers said while under interview, Lavender said he took the car because he was 'sick of walking' and wanted to drive to London. He was sentenced to two years and five months for burglary, two months for taking a motor vehicle without consent, and two months for failing to provide a breath specimen. He was also banned from driving for 27 months. DC Aaron Halsey said: "We hope this sentence sends a clear message that Sussex Police will not tolerate any sort of criminality and will work to bring offenders to justice." Lavender's accomplice, Adam Newton, 31, of Earlham Grove, London, was jailed for two months for being carried in a motor vehicle taken without consent.   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
