A man has been jailed for a year after pleading guilty to carrying out a spate of burglaries at businesses in Hove over the summer. Appearing at Brighton Magistrates court, Muhhammed Ahmed, of Ingram Crescent West in Hove, admitted eight charges of burglary as well as possession of cocaine and breaching a conditional discharge issued in April this year for shoplifting. The court heard the 35-year-old broke into various shops, cafes, restaurants and businesses including Flowers Unlimited, Artista Studio, Viksi Salon, Cafe Ninety between June and September. Police said Ahmed stole cash, bottles of alcohol, electronic devices and other property from the businesses he broke into, as well as damaging their doors and windows to gain access. Ahmed also breached a community order which had been issued in October last year for battery, possession of cocaine and failing to surrender to custody last August. He was sentenced concurrently for the breach. Detective Inspector Ian Still said: "Ahmed carried out a series of burglaries at businesses in Hove over the summer months which impacted on the community in this part of the city. “We worked hard to investigate these offences along with help from the business community and members of the public and are pleased he is now behind bars."
