Man left with serious head injuries following head-on crash near Uckfield

A man has been flown to hospital with serious head injuries following a head-on collision between two cars which closed the A22 at Maresfield on Saturday (November, 30). Emergency services were called to the incident near Uckfield around 11.30am, after a black Lotus Elise sports car and a grey Ford Focus collided near the Batts Bridge roundabout. Police said the Lotus driver, a 47-year-old man from Newick, was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by air ambulance with serious head injuries. The Ford driver, a 57-year-old man from Hartfield, and his front-seat passenger, a 13-year-old boy, also from Hartfield, were both taken to hospital with slight injuries and shock, according to the force. Officers said the A22 Maresfield bypass was closed until 4.15pm while emergency services dealt with the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting Operation Ferndale.
