Match Preview: Brighton Aim To Halt Slide Against Title Chasing Liverpool

Brighton and Hove Albion will look to arrest their Premier League slide when title-chasing Liverpool arrive at the Amex for a 3pm kick-off this Saturday.

The Seagulls showed signs of life despite being vanquished 2-1 by Newcastle last weekend — a fourth successive defeat.

Brighton have struggled on home turf this season, with a lack of firepower undermining a generally solid — albeit recently depleted — defence.

Liverpool won a hard fought contest against West Ham 1-0 at the weekend, with a goal from Sadio Mane the difference between the teams.

The Reds possess all three of the Premier League's top goal scorers so far this campaign: Mane, Diogo Jota and the irrepressible Mo Salah, who has an astonishing 19 goals and 10 assists in the top-flight.

Albion have won three of 13 home games in the league, scoring just 10 goals in the process.

Liverpool have been prolific on the road, scoring 34 times in their 13 away fixtures to date.

Form guide

Albion have been stricken by the nightmarish double-whammy of scoring few and conceding many in recent weeks.

Graham Potter's men are therefore slumped towards the bottom of the recent form table as their season threatens to drift towards a toneless denouement.

(The Fishy)

Liverpool have won their previous EIGHT PL matches, putting them top of the form table, as they chase a record-equalling 20th top-tier title, having already secured the EFL Cup in recent weeks.

The teams have met 34 times in the past, with Liverpool enjoying 19 wins, Brighton five, and 10 encounters ending all square.

Injury news

Brighton have long-term absentees Enock Mwepu and Tudor Baluta out.

Influential centre-back Adam Webster is on the way back and will face a late fitness test after missing the previous three matches.

Roberto Firmino was absent against Inter Milan on Tuesday evening due to a muscular problem, and the Brazil international is likely to remain on the sidelines for this match.

Thiago has returned to full training after suffering a hamstring injury and centre-half Joel Matip will be available after illness.

Possible line-ups

Brighton (4-4-1-1):

Liverpool (4-3-3):

Prediction: Brighton 0 - 3 Liverpool

Sadly, a fifth defeat on the bounce looms for the Seagulls, who face the league's in form team as they chase a 20th title.

Expect Salah and Alexander-Arnold to exploit spaces left by the attacking Cucurella, to the delight of Fantasy Premier League managers across the globe.
