Meghan Says She And Prince Harry Were 'Happy' To Leave The UK And That They're 'Like Salt And Pepper'

The Duchess of Sussex has given another tell-all interview, claiming she and Prince Harry were "happy" to leave the UK because "just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy".

Speaking to New York Magazine's The Cut, Meghan said the couple were prepared to go anywhere in the Commonwealth to escape their life in Britain and were considering Canada, New Zealand and South Africa before the actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry offered them a home in California.

She told the magazine: "Anything to just… because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy. So we go, 'Okay, fine, let's get out of here. Happy to.'"

Meghan said she has "really made an active effort to forgive" both her in-laws and members of her own family, and that since she stepped back from royal duties she "hasn't had to sign anything that restricts me from talking", but she is "still healing" from the ordeal.

She also claimed that in private, the Duke of Sussex has referred to "losing my dad in this process", suggesting he no longer has a relationship with Prince Charles.

And describing the protocol of having to share pictures of their son Archie when he was a newborn with the media, she said:

"Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?"

The interview comes amid speculation the Sussexes will not be able to visit the Queen at Balmoral on their visit to the UK next week due to security issues.

Last week Meghan launched her Archetypes podcast on Spotify, in which she claimed she was forced to continue with her and Harry's tour of South Africa despite Archie narrowly escaping a fire in his bedroom.

Harry and Meghan like 'salt and pepper' and 'two palm trees'

The couple now live in Montecito, a small coastal village north of Los Angeles.

Describing her relationship with Prince Harry, she said they were like "salt and pepper" because they "always move together".

And when detailing the decision to buy their $14.65m (£12.5m) house, she said they chose it because Harry thought the two palm trees in the garden "connected at the bottom" resembled the pair of them.

After closing all her social media accounts and her lifestyle blog 'The Tig' when she became engaged to Harry in 2018, the new interview saw her reveal she is "getting back on Instagram".

But later in the piece, writer Allison P Davis adds: "Later, Meghan would relay she was no longer sure she would actually return to Instagram."

On their upcoming trip to the UK, the couple will make appearances to "support several charities close to their hearts", according to their spokesperson.

They will travel to Manchester on 5 September for the One Young World Summit before visiting Germany for the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 One Year To Go event.
