Met Office: Storm Arwen To Bring High Winds To Sussex Tomorrow (Nov 27)

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for this Saturday warning of strong gusts that could dislodge roof tiles and trees.

They're warning of:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Some damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Almond, said:

"Gusts of wind are likely to reach 50 to 60 mph widely, with 70 to 80 mph possible in coastal locations, particularly in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

“As well as strong winds, rain will also move south across the country on Friday, with showers following turning increasingly to hill snow in the north. This wintry mix of showers will continue on Saturday, and although snow is possible almost anywhere away from the far-south, accumulations are likely to be confined to hills."

Local forecasts for Saturday show:

East Sussex: Gusty winds, reaching 44mph from lunchtime through to the evening on Saturday with a chance of rain in the morning. Cloudy with highs of five degrees.

West Sussex: Similar picture with a chance of sleet in the morning. Highs of five degrees.

Sunday:

Sunshine for Sussex until mid afternoon, with wind speeds lowering to between 20 and 30 (mph).
