The Met Office has issued a Level 3 Amber weather alert as forecasts show a drop in temperature to minus five overnight with highs of just three degrees in Sussex tomorrow (Jan 17).
The alert states a 90% probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions covering the period from 9am Monday morning (Jan 16) util 9am on Friday 20th, with a warning that vulnerable people could be at risk with a possible disruption to services.
The Met Office says cold air has spread south across much of the country overnight on Sunday and these condition are likely to persist throughout the week bringing widespread frost.

The cold spell comes after heavy periods of rain over the past week, with flood warnings issued today for Barcombe Mills, Bersted, Fittleworth, Mock Bridge on the River Adur, Pulborough on the River Run and Westhampnett on the River Lavant.
Advice from The Met Office:
Look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold, and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes adequately. Try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18°C, particularly if you are not mobile, have a long-term illness or are 65 or over. Avoid exposing yourself to cold or icy outdoor conditions if you are at a higher risk of cold-related illness or falls and stay up to date with the latest weather forecasts on the Met Office website
