Misconduct Hearing Due Of Sussex Police Officer Alleged To Have Injured Woman

A Sussex Police officer is due to face a misconduct hearing in connection with allegations of violence and making threats against a woman.

In full, according to Sussex Police, the officer, PC Upperton, faces the following accusations:

  1. On the 11th November 2019 he forced his way into the home of a woman causing her to fall backwards and causing her minor injury;
  2. On 13th January 2020 in conversation with another officer he made threats to the same woman;
  3. On 14th January 2020 he made angry comments about her to another officer;
  4. In the same conversation he made threats against a Superintendent who had issued him bail.

The force said that, if proven, these allegations of misconduct (under the Police Conduct Regulations 2012) are so serious as to amount to gross misconduct.

The sanctions available if gross misconduct is proven are chosen from the following:

  • Dismissal without notice
  • Dismissal with notice
  • Final Written Warning
  • Written warning
  • Management advice

The hearing is due to begin on June the 17th, and is scheduled to last for two days.
