Volunteer lifeboat crews have confirmed a search continued overnight for a kayaker reported missing from the Sussex coast yesterday.

According to Sussex Police, Shane Davies was reported as not returning after leaving the shore in the Pagham and Selsey beach area.

The 33-year-old went missing at about 3.30pm on Saturday (June 12) after getting into difficulty while kayaking with a friend.

Since that time, concern has been growing for his welfare.

Involved in the search so far have been a coastguard helicopter, two fixed-wing aircraft, lifeboat volunteers from Selsey, Littlehampton and Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.

Rescuers have been searching both the sea and the shoreline.

Officers described Shane as white, about 5’9”, of a medium build with brown hair.

He was wearing camouflaged shorts, a multi-coloured vest top and a red life jacket.

Anyone who sees him or knows where he could be is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1290 of 12/6.

If an emergency presents itself, the number to call is always 999.
