Official flood alerts are this afternoon (Saturday 28) peppering the Sussex coastline and many of its waterways.
The Environment Agency and the Met Office have today (Saturday 28 October) warned of many causes that could lead to areas near the coast, or close to rivers, being covered in water that could cause risk to life and property.
The most serious warning covers Climping, between Littlehampton and Bognor.
Among other flood notices, the coastline at Seaford is mentioned as an area of particular danger; and also the Cuckmere River at Alfriston, and the River Arun and Arundel.
According to Met Office forecasters, Sussex has not yet seen the end of predicted heavy rain.
They said that longer periods of heavy rain could continue until late on Sunday.
Many parts of Sussex could receive 15-30 mm of rainfall, whilst the wettest spots, most likely close to English Channel coasts, could see 50-70 mm.
In addition, overnight Saturday into early Sunday, strong winds gusting 45-55 mph are also probable along exposed parts of the English Channel coastline.
