New App For Electric Vehicle Charging In Brighton & Hove

People who drive electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are being asked to switch to a new app to access the city’s charging points.

Operator EB Charging has introduced the new app, called EB Go!, to improve the options for electric vehicle (EV) drivers across the UK.

The app will allow drivers to set each charge to a fixed amount of time or money. Drivers will be able to charge their vehicle as a guest, without having to input their personal data, in line with new government regulations, or choose to register.

The new EB Go! app is available to download for free from the App Store or Play Store.

More information can be found on the council's electric vehicles and charging webpage.

The upgrade to the new app has been taking place in recent months, during which time drivers have been charging their vehicles for free, and that will continue until 31 January 2022.

Drivers do not need to use the app before 31 January during the free vend period and can just turn up to a charger and ‘plug and play’.

Working with operator EB Charging, the council has installed more than 200 lamppost chargers across the city as well as 29 rapid and fast chargers.

There are also three new rapid charging hubs for use by the city’s electric taxis, which are also on free vend until 31 January and need a RFID card to operate. The bays allocated for taxi use are clearly marked.

There are more than 1000 EVs registered in the city, with 5000 predicted to be registered by the end of 2025.

Co-Chair of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability committee, Steve Davis said:

“I’m very much hoping the new features and flexibility this app will offer will increase EV take up in the city.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to reach our goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 and only by giving residents and visitors the infrastructure they need can they make sustainable travel choices.”

Alex Calnan, CEO of EB Charging, said:

“We’re pleased to announce the launch of our new EB Go! app for electric vehicle drivers in Brighton & Hove and across the country.

“We’ve been working closely with the council to improve access and availability to EV charging and have created this new app to help make charging even easier for everyone.

“To mark this change and support drivers during the app upgrade, we have been providing free charging at EB Charging points throughout the city, this will run up to 31 January.”

Should you face any problems with either the app or a charge point, contact the EB Charging 24/7 helpline on: 0330 111 0076.
