New Festival To Celebrate Arts and Culture In Worthing

Worthing is to enjoy an abundance of arts and culture this summer as the borough prepares to host a celebration of local talent through an ambitious new multi-arts festival.

The Worthing Festival - comprising music, dance, art, heritage, comedy, workshops, family events and more - will run from June 10-18.

Taking place in venues and open spaces across the borough, the celebration has been inspired by community conversations asking for more visibility for Worthing’s wealth of cultural talent.

The festival has been created by Worthing Borough Council’s official place brand, Time for Worthing. It’s hoped that following on from this year’s debut festival, the concept can be owned, developed and delivered by the community.

Dozens of individuals and groups have already registered their interest in taking part. Local entertainers, venues and leisure providers, including the likes of Worthing Theatres and Museum, Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra and Highdown Gardens, have already signed up, along with restaurants, pubs and bars.

Following a competition held at Northbrook College, branding for this year’s festival is to feature the work of Jessica Galbraith, who has recently graduated from a Makeup and Hair for Theatre and Media degree course there.

Worthing Festival ‘23 will take place between Saturday 10th June  and Sunday 18th June. The dates which have been specifically identified to coincide with a number of existing events, and not to disrupt other festivals later in the year.

Cllr Rita Garner, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“From singers and artists to historians and organisers of fun for all the family, there is so much talent in and around Worthing that deserves to be put on show and enjoyed by the public.

“In our conversations, the community have asked for a Council-backed festival like this, and we’re delighted to help provide a platform for our wealth of local talent and shine the spotlight firmly on our town"

Worthing Festival event listings will be revealed in mid April.
