An attempt was made to set four cars alight in a street in Newhaven early this morning (June 11), firefighters say.
Fire crews attended First Avenue shortly before 1am today, and said that, in addition to a suspect having tried to start fires, several windows in the cars had been smashed.
According to police, a man — described as dressed entirely in black and with a black snood over his face — was observed running away in the direction of Second Avenue.
A police dog unit was called to assist in a search, but found no trace of a suspect.
Officers say they're treating the incident as a case of criminal damage, and have begun an investigation.
They're appealing for information, using incident reference 54 of 11/06.
