Over 500 Events On Sale As Brighton Fringe Returns To The City

'England's largest arts festival' the Brighton Fringe returns in May with over 500 events to choose from.

A month-long adventure of theatre, comedy, cabaret, circus, music, dance, tours, exhibitions, and events will be taking place across Brighton, Hove and Sussex this May and June.

Events are now available to browse and book as part of the Brighton Fringe 2023 general on-sale launch, with organisers encouraging festival goers to 'get your hands on tickets for award-winning comedy, queer musicals, fast-paced theatre and laugh-out-loud children's shows'.

In the newly announced programme, popular Brighton Fringe venues The Rotunda Theatre and The Caxton Arms return alongside new for 2023 venues such as the outdoor spectacle Caravanserai and Kemptown queer hotspot Arcobaleno.

Highlights of Brighton Fringe 2023 include the Edinburgh Festival Fringe “must see” show of 2022 Mythos: Ragnarok, which makes its Brighton Fringe debut at Caravanserai. This epic dark comedy combines Norse mythological storytelling with full-contact professional wrestling to create some of the most intense and thrilling fight scenes ever seen in a theatre. Acclaimed by both die-hard wrestling fans and critics who "you couldn't pay to watch WWE", the show earned glowing reviews and was nominated for the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence during its sold-out Edinburgh run.

Don’t miss the hotly anticipated surreal comedy Experiment Human, an award-winning comical horror taking place at The Rotunda Theatre. Centred around a non-human creature obsessed with Benedict Cumberbatch, Experiment Human is a surreal dark comedy questioning human happiness, learning how to be human, and seeking to protect Cumberbatch at all costs.

Comedy highlights include Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year finalist Chloe Petts who returns to Brighton Fringe following her sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and Soho Theatre in 2022, with a work-in-progress of her new show: If You Can't Say Anything Nice (Work-in-Progress) with Laughing Horse @ The Temple Bar.

The comedy programme includes several rising stars, such as BBC New Comedy Awards finalist Mamoun Elagab. Performing his hour-long show Mamoun Elagab: Why I Love White People (Work-in-Progress) at Presuming Ed’s, Elagab delves into British society, taking a leftfield, unorthodox look at all that this entails.

For families and younger audiences, events include Chicken Circus by Head2Head Sensory Theatre and Comedy Club 4 Kidz at Komedia.

These span various genres, from theatre and comedy to magic and interactive experiences. Centring itself around inclusion, Chicken Circus is an immersive, multi-sensory experience aimed at children with various disabilities. Adapted from a story by Monty Python member Terry Jones, this show shares the story of a fox who trains as a circus performer after stealing chickens.

If you’re looking for a tried-and-tested comical experience, Comedy Club 4 Kidz has been running since 2005 and boasts a range of stand-up and sketch acts from the international circuit. This show has comedians tell their best jokes, minus the rude bits, making it suitable for adults and their children (aged 6+). Witness some of the biggest names in comedy at this family-friendly showcase.
