Passers-By In Lewes Help Police Detain Suspected Burglar

Members of the public in Lewes have helped police catch a man suspected of burglary.

Anthony Bowles, 40, was seen running from an address in Morris Road at around 2pm last Thursday (September 2).

Police were called by a resident who suspected someone had been breaking into the property.

He was stopped by passers-by and detained until police arrived.

Officers recovered a quantity of watches and jewellery, believed to have been stolen from the address.

Bowles will appear at Crown Court on October 1st.

Bowles, who is unemployed and of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with burglary with intent to steal and criminal damage.

He appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Saturday (September 4) and will next appear at Crown Court on October 1.
