The man using a zebra crossing in Eastbourne who was struck by a car in a hit-and-run on Wednesday evening (26 July) has now died, police have said.
The pedestrian, who was in his 70s, was hit while he crossed Upperton Road near the junction with Ocklynge Road at around 7.50pm.
Sussex Police said the vehicle's driver did not stop at the scene.
Officers reported that, in the course of Thursday, "a number of arrests" took place, as the investigation continued.
The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A witness appeal was continuing last night, with investigators particularly hoping to hear from members of the public who might have seen a dark-coloured saloon vehicle with a damaged windscreen.
