A man out walking last night in Rustington was still in hospital this morning (August 28), receiving treatment for injuries suffered in a hit-and-run.

Emergency services attended the A259 New Road soon after 9pm, following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, where the driver failed to stop.

The walker, who is in his 40s, had been crossing the westbound carriageway at the traffic lights by Rustington Retail Park.

Police said the victim was taken to hospital, where he continues to be treated for his injuries.

Officers were today working to establish the full circumstances of the collision — they're urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

An appeal has also been made for any witnesses or relevant dash-cam footage

Information is welcome to email address collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting Operation Oxford.
