Pells Pool Announces Reopening Date

Pells Pool has announced its prospective reopening date after its closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Pool had previously said that it needed to ensure it was completely safe to reopen, and that maintenance needed to be completed before it could do so.

In an announcement, Pells Pool said:

"We have made a lot of progress with getting the pool ready, including shifting uncounted numbers of buckets of the goo from the base of the pool. We did this by hand rather than trying to get a tanker in - and are now completing jet washing of the pool tank (ie the floor and sides).

"We should be refilling with water starting overnight tonight, which takes 72 hours. Then we commission the pumps over the weekend, and finally complete the important stage of lifeguard training and assessment in the pool itself on Monday and Tuesday, on the new Covid-19 secure RLSS standards."

The pool is set to reopen on July 22 - although as this date is a provisional date, tickets won't be sold once it has been confirmed.

A new online booking system is also to be launched.

The pool added:

"We should remind folks that the pool is unheated - and filled with spring water from the aquifer under the pool. It will therefore be cooler than usual, since it will have much less time than usual to heat up under the sunshine."
