Snakes 'Peter' and 'James' Named After Brighton-Based Crime Author

To celebrate the release of his new book, the RSPCA has named two snakes after crime writer and patron, Peter James.

The creator of Brighton-based Detective Superintendent Roy Grace — which has become a much loved ITV drama — has this week released his new book, Wish You Were Dead.

To mark the occasion, the RSPCA team asked Peter which animals he'd like to have named after him. He selected the two snakes to highlight the rescue centre's specialist exotics facility — which takes in abused, neglected and abandoned reptiles.

RSPCA Sussex, East Grinstead and Brighton branch manager, Jenny Eden, said:

"We're really proud of Peter and we're all huge lovers of his writing so we're delighted to have the chance to enjoy his latest book.

"We wanted to celebrate Peter's latest achievement with him so decided to name some of our animals after him!

"He picked the snakes because he wanted to help us highlight the plight of reptiles and showcase the unique work we do to rescue and rehome the many unwanted or mistreated reptiles we welcome through our doors every year.

"At RSPCA Patcham, we care for dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, chickens, ferrets and various birds but our work with reptiles is unique as there are so few facilities for reptiles."

Earlier this year, the Sunday Times number one best-selling author combined his passion for animals and his love of Brighton by joining the team at the RSPCA Brighton branch as their new patron.

Peter is a big animal lover — with more than 70 of them living in the home he shares with his wife, Lara.
