UPDATE: PHOTOS: Central Brighton Road Cordoned Off Following Assault

Part of North Street by the Pavilion Buildings was cordoned off today following an assault that left a puddle of blood on the pavement.

Police and forensics teams were seen to be gathering evidence at the scene, which was around the area of Lloyds Bank.

Officers said they were called at 3.15am on Thursday (February 23) with a report of an assault between a man and woman in Pavilion Gardens, Brighton.

They attended the scene where they located a man with injuries to his face. He was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening or life changing injuries. The man currently remains in hospital.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody at this time.

There will be heightened police presence in the area while officers conduct their enquiries. Anyone with information which could assist officers with their investigation is asked to report it to police online or call 101 quoting serial number 113 of 23/02.
