A Greggs lorry has smashed into a railway signal box on Longford Road in Bognor Regis.

Police were called shortly before 3am on Sunday morning (June 25) to find the lorry had left the road and gone through a fence that backed on to the railway, reportedly causing a gas leak.

An eye witness said surrounding buildings were evacuated and West Sussex Fire & Rescue, the British Transport Police, local police, the ambulance service and BT Open Reach all attended the scene.

Just before 3pm on Sunday, West Sussex Fire & Rescue reported that Highways Heavy Recovery Team had righted the lorry, the gas leak had been dealt with and residents had been able to go back to their homes.
