Pills found in late-night kebabs in Bognor — two men arrested

Police in Bognor have arrested two men in connection with an investigation into pills discovered in kebabs bought by three women from a takeaway late at night. It was around 2am on Sunday (December 29) that the customers, all in their twenties, returned home from the Istanbul Grill in the town's High Street. They then discovered and reported the unwanted extras in the kebabs that had been prepared for them. Officers began enquiries, which led them to arrest two local men, aged 30 and 42. They were detained on suspicion of administering poison with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm. According to Sussex Police, as of Monday afternoon (December 30), both suspects remained in police custody. Officers expressed puzzlement at what the motive for including the pills among the legitimate ingredients might have been. District Commander, Chief Inspector Jon Carter, said: "Police have taken prompt action to protect the public with the arrest of two people, and are working with partners, especially in the district council, to enhance protective measures. "The investigation is at an early stage, and exactly what happened, and the motivations of those involved are not yet fully understood. "However, there is nothing to suggest that any other food outlets are involved, or that there is any link with any particular section of the wider community. "Local officers will be present in the area, and I would ask for the support of the public in allowing officers to investigate this matter." Police are asking the public for information, which can be reported online or by calling 101, quoting serial 344 of 29/12.
