Police arrest teenager in connection with Worthing seafront rape

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the ongoing investigation into the rape of a woman on Worthing seafront. The 26-year-old victim was approached by a man while walking along New Parade near Splashpoint last Sunday night (September, 8), shortly before 10.30pm. Police said he initially asked her for directions, but then took her to the beach and raped her, before leaving the area on foot. Officers said a 16-year-old boy was arrested in the town this morning (Wednesday, 18) on suspicion of the rape and, after being interviewed, was released on bail with conditions, until October 13. DS Eva Barwis, of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Team, said: "We are grateful to local people for their response to our appeals for information. "However, our investigation is still very much ongoing." Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting Operation Neston.
