Sussex Police have said the two police officers struck by a stolen car on the A259 in Littlehampton early yesterday morning (Monday, 23), are making a 'good recovery'. The response officers, a man and a woman, were left with injuries including a broken leg, shoulder and other fractures, after they were knocked down by a stolen Mercedes following a roadside drugs check in the early hours. Officers said the policewoman, who suffered fractures, has been discharged from hospital, while her male colleague continues to be treated in hospital. The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, which was stopped for the drugs test, has been discharged after being treated for fractures, and has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug. Police said a 20-year-old local man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains in custody at this time. DCI Andy Wolstenholme, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "The officers are thankful for the outpouring of support and best wishes. "They have been incredibly brave after being struck by a vehicle in the course of carrying out their duties. "Thankfully they are making a steady recovery and they appreciate the kind words of support from their colleagues and the public." Police said they are no longer seeking two fleeing passengers from the Mercedes, originally reported by a witness. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting Operation Oxbridge.
