Police In Your Pocket: British Transport Police Launch New 'Railway Guardian' App

British Transport Police have launched a new app that allows you to report crime on the railway, in real time.

The Railway Guardian app has options that include sending an SMS directly to the control room to report crime happening on the train.

It gives your location to officers who can deploy to your nearest or next stop where appropriate.

The app means you can feel confident travelling on the railway, knowing help is at hand if you need it and also learn about keeping yourself safe, all in one place.

You can also stay up to date with the latest news and updates from British Transport Police and report any crime or concerns to us quickly and easily.

The geographical location option also allows you to share your journey with loved ones and also offers support for all types of people and situations.

The Railway Guardian app is another first for British Transport Police. Almost 10 years ago they launched the text 61016 service which allows you to text them directly and discreetly. It's the only police-supported safety app available in the UK.

The BTP have also teamed up with TransPennine Express and Northern, creating four short videos to show how you can use the app to report something or get tips on how to safely intervene in a situation you feel uncomfortable with.
