Police Investigating Builder Roof Scam In East Sussex

Officers have reason to believe a number of people in the area have been targeted by fraudsters in January and February of this year.

Police in East Sussex are looking to identify possible victims of a fraud.

Officers have reason to believe a number of people in the area have been targeted by fraudsters in January and February of this year.

The scam involves people claiming to be builders and offering to fix your roof. However, once money is handed over, no work has been carried out.

In some cases, it’s thought the victim is transported to the bank by the fraudsters in order to withdraw the money.

Police would like to hear from anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of this fraud, or anyone who knows someone who has been approached in similar circumstances.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 588 of 08/01.

People are urged to be vigilant about any unexpected contact from people offering products or services. Always ask to check their ID and if you’re not happy, don’t engage with them.

Never give your bank details or transfer money to those you don’t know or trust, and never give your PIN number or other sensitive information to strangers.

If you are in doubt about a situation, call police or a trusted friend or relative for advice. If something doesn’t sound right, don’t feel pressured to make a snap decision on matters relating to your finances. Take the time to do some research and trust your instincts.
