Police investigating flat fire above Bexhill shop

Police are investigating a fire at a flat above a vacant shop in Bexhill, which they said substantially damaged the property. Crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident in Sidley Street after a fire broke out between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday (September, 20). Firefighters were able to tackle the blaze and it was put out by 11pm, with no reports of injuries. Police said the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, and are now keen to speak to anyone with information about previous occupants, as the property had been empty for a year. DC Lotte Scott said: "It would help us to know who had lived there or who may have used the premises in the meantime, possibly on a temporary basis." Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 1193 of 20/09.
