Police investigating multiple dog shootings in East Sussex

Police are investigating after two dogs were shot in separate incidents in East Sussex, with one having to be put down as a result. A local woman was walking her pet, a five-year-old Springer Spaniel, through a public footpath, on the Buckhurst Farm Estate in Hartfield, when it ran off, before returning with wounds believed to have been caused by an air weapon. Officers said the dog then had to be put down by a vet following the incident on Sunday, September 15. A second incident then took place on Saturday, September 28 in the woods close to Mardens Hill, Crowborough. Police said a local man was out walking their dog when a scuffle occurred, believed to involve other dogs out of sight of the owner, following which the pet returned with wounds believed to have been caused by air pellets. It received treatment at a vets and is understood to be recovering, according to police. Officers said they are not linking the incidents at this time. Anyone with information about either incident can contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1553 of 15/09, or reference number 1213 of 28/09.
