Police name 'celebrated cook and loving mother' who died following collision in Lancing

A woman who died after a car collided with her in Lancing has been described by her family as a 'celebrated cook and loving mother'. Police have named the victim as Caroline Stead, 59, from the village, who died at the scene of the incident on the A259 at Beach Green on Monday morning (January, 6). Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene at 7.20am, where Caroline has been crossing the road with her dog when a silver BMW, driven by a 47-year-old man from Shoreham, struck her. Caroline's family have since issued the following statement: "Caroline Victoria Stead, mother, daughter and sister, passed away in a fatal accident earlier this week at the age of 59. "She was a warm and outgoing person who easily made friends. "Born in Kilmacolm, Scotland, she had the fortune to travel widely in her youth. "A celebrated cook and loving mother, her youthful and bubbly spirit will be dearly missed by friends and family. "She leaves behind a loving family who will not be making further comment." Police said Caroline's dog ran off following the incident, but was found a short while later and taken to a vet for treatment to a paw injury.
