Police taser pet dog after it bites officers on welfare visit in Worthing

Police have tasered a dog in Worthing after it bit two officers on a welfare visit this morning (Wednesday, 30), while a woman has been arrested. Officers said the male and female PC were assisting a local social worker in relation to the welfare of a woman at a property in Selden Road, shortly before 9.30am. While they were there, he was bitten by the dog, which police said is owned by the resident. Police said the pair of officers were both repeatedly punched. The pet was tasered in order to help ensure its safe restraint, according to the force, and was later taken to kennels. The officers were taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment. A 46-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assault on police and of causing grievous bodily harm, remains in custody at this time. Police said the dog is not reported to have suffered any ill-effects from being tasered.
